The Departure of the bride (La Partenze)
Abruzzese typical bridal song of the area of Teramo

"La Partenze" in Colledara

This version appears in Fedele Romani's "L’amore e il suo regno nei proverbi abruzzesi" (1897) and consists of two parts, the former containing the lament of the bride's mother, and the latter the father's cursing because the daughter was carrying her dowry away.

Piange la mämme ca la féjje è spòse:
- Mô se ne vä la shtó te de la cäse. -
Arspönne lu su pätre: - Che scé mbése!
Quasse è la rruuéne de la cäse. -
Quänne la môle cäreche li cäsce:
- Pòvera féjja mi, cà mô mme läsce!
Quänne ce mètte sôpre li cuscéne:
- Pòvera casa mì, mô s’arruuéne!
The mother cries 'cause the daughter gets married:
Now the joy of my house is going
Replies the father: - May she be hung!
That one is the ruin of the house.
When the donkey is being loaded:
O my poor daughter, that she's now leaving!
When she rides over the cushion:
O my poor house that is going in ruin!
